With a variety of handy tools and great services available, it’s never been easier to travel around by public transport. New technology means you don’t have to wait around at bus stops, many buses and trains now have WiFi on board, cashless ticket options and more!
The new homes at Killingworth Grange are in a great location for those wanting to undertake trips by public transport. In addition to a number of handy bus services which pass close to your home, the Palmersville Metro Station is also just a short walk away, providing convenient access to the Metro network. If your journey is over a longer distance, a connection to Newcastle Central train station will take between 30-50 minutes depending on which mode you use. This makes it easy and convenient to leave the car at home, whether travelling locally or further afield.
Key Local Bus Services
Currently, your closest bus stops can be found on Simonside way, with further services available on East Bailey. As development progresses across Killingworth Moor, significant enhancements to local bus services have been planned. These additional services will be communicated to residents as and when they become available.

The 19 service stops along Simonside Way and provides a bus every 30 minutes, Monday to Saturday. On Sundays, service are reduced to hourly, with reduced morning and evening services.

The 354 service between Newcastle to North Shields provides a bus around every hour, Monday to Sunday. On Sundays, services are reduced in the morning and evening.
Operated by Go NorthEast.
For further afield trips and operating from Simonside Way, the 356 provides two services an hour between Newcastle to Whitely Bay Monday to Saturday. No services run on Sundays.

Travelling via East Bailey, services run every 20 minutes, Monday to Saturday. On Sundays, services are reduced to every 30 minutes.

Metro and Rail Services
The closest train station to Killingworth Gate is Newcastle Central, which can be reached in around 40 minutes by public transport or around 20 minutes by car. Managed by LNER, Newcastle station offers frequent services to a host of destinations, both locally and nationally, including Edinburgh, Liverpool and London.
If you’re wishing to travel locally within the Tyne and Wear region, making the journey using the Metro network can not only sometimes be more cost effective and quicker, it’s also super convenient, with Palmersville Metro station just a short distance from Killingworth Gate. Sitting on the network’s Yellow Line, with trains running between St James and South Shields, there are typically services every 12 minutes in each direction during peak hours and every 15 minutes during off-peak times. Paying for your Journey
Catching the bus or train no longer has to mean fumbling around for change before hopping on to pay the driver or conductor in a rush! There are so many different ways to pay for your journey now that you may feel a little spoilt for choice!
It’s also important to check that you aren’t paying too much. Whilst paying for single or return tickets is OK for occasional or one off journeys, those who travel more frequently by bus and/or rail can save some significant cash by choosing monthly or annual passes.

Bus operator apps have proved to offer a real step change when it comes to real-time bus information. They display the exact location of your bus on a handy map, in a very similar style to the Uber app which many are now familiar with.
